Mucociliary Function in Chronic Bronchitis

MUCOCILIARY FUNCTION IN CHRONIC BRONCHITIS

V. N. Solopov, I. V. Lunichkina

Summary

A study of mucociliary transport in patients with chronic bronchitis (nonobstructive, obstructive, purulent and pyo-obstructive forms) has demonstrated that the mucociliary transport rate differs significantly between different groups of patients. The pattern of bronchial excretion of the indicator substance (patients endogenic hemoglobin), inhaled into the respiratory tract, is described. It is concluded that mucociliary transport studies are valuable for diagnosis as well as assessment of treatment efficiency. Several case reports are quoted as examples.
